KEY TO ABBREVIATIONS:
E: Eastern Conference
W: Western Conference
NE: Northeast Division
AT: Atlantic Division
SE: Southeast Division
CE: Central Division
NW: Northwest Division
PA: Pacific Division
PT: President’s Trophy (best record in NHL)
PO: Playoffs
1P: Top 5 Draft Position, and a chance at the first overall pick
TBD: To Be Determined. Magic Numbers over 100 are not considered on this chart, so opponents and actions will not be listed until a team has a magic number under 100.

Teams ranked in order by Max Possible Points (top number), then by Current Points (bottom number). If still tied, official NHL.com standings shall prevail between the tied teams. Intra-season division leads which have not been clinched may be ignored, if standard tie breaks so warrant.

As of 2010-2011, the next tie break after points is Regulation and Overtime Wins, or ROW. That is given a separate column, with the same format as points: Max Possible ROW on top, current ROW on the bottom. Changes in ROW can affect the main Next Number.

Positive Next Numbers indicate Next Numbers for CLINCHING. Negative Next Numbers indicate Next Numbers for ELIMINATION. Most teams have two significant Next Numbers, one good and one bad. Both are listed, along with the teams those numbers are compared against. A plus sign under “Which Does What?” is the next “positive” event for the CLINCHING number; a minus sign shows the next “negative” event for the ELIMINATION number.

For teams that have the same positive or negative number against two or more teams, all such opponents will be listed. If a divisional result is available against one or more such teams, but not all of them, the divisional team(s) will be listed in parentheses. Although unlikely, if the President’s Trophy or First Pick lead is tied among two or more teams in different conferences, any in-conference results will be listed in parentheses. In the EXTREMELY unlikely event of a three-way tie for President’s Trophy or First Pick involving teams from three different divisions, conference results will be listed in parentheses, and division results in brackets.

Teams in green have qualified for the playoffs; teams struck in red have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. A green underline indicates a division champion, and a guaranteed Top 3 seeding in the playoffs. Clinches underlined in red, with no corresponding elimination, represent final positions for non-winning teams within a division or conference.

“M” spots: Refers to the mathematical spots in each conference. If multiple teams from one division have more points than a different division’s leader, that “lagging” division leader will still be ranked mathematically on this chart for the sake of continuity. Spots marked with an “M” indicate a mathematical standing where a lower-scoring divisional lead is being ignored.
