The Boys in Blue Come A-Callin’ February 2, 2008

Well, it’s going to be an interesting night at Verizon Center.  Should be a raucous crowd on hand tonight after Ovechkin’s heroics two nights ago.  And since this is a team the Caps absolutely hate, it’s going to feature some fireworks.

Part of me does wish this game doesn’t get too chippy, especially on Kid’s Night.  For a Wednesday night game against the Thrashers, without a kids’ promo, I’d be yelling “EIGHT-y SEV-en!” all night.  But since they’re emphasizing this as a game for the youngsters, I hope both teams try to keep it at least somewhat clean.  A thought:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’  But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer.  But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile.  Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.”–Matthew 5:38-42, NRSV

Gentlemen, there are children in the house tonight.  Don’t be afraid to turn the other cheek, if only for tonight.  We’ll see these guys again.

One game, one card: Daughter of Swords–Confidence.   That portends a good game for a new, intellectual player.  Looks like we need to keep an eye on Nicklas Backstrom tonight, Caps faithful.  Caps should win this one in regulation, but it could be close.  I’ll call it Caps by a deuce.
