Full-Season Predictions: A Sneak Peek August 27, 2008

Well, summer is rapidly winding down, and this weekend is the unofficial end of it. Hockey season is getting closer and closer.
At some point this weekend, I will sit down and complete the full-season predictions for the Caps. But you won’t get to read the results this weekend. Why not? Because I am going to post the results a little differently than the monthly readings I did last year (and will do again this year). I won’t be posting the whole kit-caboodle all at once: that would be way too much to read in one sitting. Here’s what I intend to do, schedule permitting: On September 3rd, which is one week from tonight, I will post a Prologue. That will be a very short, very generic overview of the results, which will (I hope) only reveal enough to keep you coming back for the rest of the reading. I will then post the results one position at a time, starting on September 4th, and concluding on the 13th. So on the 13th, you’ll read my ultimate prediction for the final outcome of the season; then on the 14th, Rookie Camp starts, and the new NHL season will be all but upon us.
Now, let me say one thing before I even start doing all that. There is only one person in the entire world who will have access to the results of the reading before they are posted on here, and that is me. I will be dropping a few hints in the Prologue, and a few more as the reading unfolds, but NO ONE besides me is going to have access the final results until they are live and posted on here. Don’t believe what you hear anywhere else. (As if anyone’s going to be talking about what I predict…dream on, but don’t imagine they’ll all come true!)
If I find something pressing to post here between now and then, I’ll post it; if not, look for the Season Predictions Prologue one week hence.

IT’S ALMOST TIME…
Cruel Summer August 14, 2008

There’s not a whole lot of hard Caps news to say anything about as of late. Rumors are flying about one of our centers, whose house is apparently on the market. Some boneheaded pundit suggested contracting the NHL, and folding the Capitals in the process. As to the former, I won’t join the speculation, even though it would make the offseason more interesting. As to the latter, such idiocy doesn’t deserve to be taken seriously.
Too late on that, though: Ted evidently though that it deserved a response. Gave it both barrels, too, I might add.
I intend, sometime on or before Labor Day, to do a Celtic Cover reading for the Caps for all of next season. A Celtic Cover is the same layout as the Celtic Cross that regular readers are familiar with, except that you deal two cards to each position. So not only will I have to interpret the cards in their positions, I’ll also have to interpret the cards in each position as they relate to each other. This will be a lot more complex than my regular readings, so don’t expect it on a work day. But with a month to go before rookie camp, I know we’ll need something to kick around other than the players’ domiciles and idiotic opinionmongers.
Monthly readings for the team will resume beginning with October.
And with all due apologies to VNV Nation, never mind Judgement Day–September’s not coming soon enough.

ONE MONTH TO GO…
Ted Leonsis on Spirituality August 7, 2008

Well, now, isn’t that interesting?
Ted Leonsis was recently interviewed by the Examiner regarding his faith. He mentioned as much on his blog. There’s a link to the Examiner article from his post.
I’ve read the article. There are some beliefs Mr. Leonsis and I seem to share, and some we don’t seem to share. But personhood and life experiences do affect your beliefs, and since our lives have been different, it’s no surprise our beliefs are not entirely identical. Still, it is notable that Mr. Leonsis is willing to go on record with matters of belief. I myself would have loved it if they’d done more than half a dozen very general questions, but The Examiner isn’t really a religious publication. I have a whole bunch of questions I would have loved to have seen his answers to, but oh well…a quick sketch you get to enjoy is better than the photo essay that forever remains unpublished.
